Doris Makes Irish Team While Joe McCarthy Omitted
Returning manager the Ireland coach has selected captain Doris in his Irish squad for the autumn matches, but lock McCarthy is absent.
Doris, who has not played since having a shoulder operation in the start of May, recently returned to provincial training, though his fitness is uncertain if he will be fit to face the All Blacks in Chicago on November 1.
Lock McCarthy, however, did not make the cut after failing to recover from the foot injury suffered during the first British and Irish Lions match against the Wallabies in July.
Northern province forward Izuchukwu and southern province winger Nash also miss out due to fitness concerns, and number 15 Keenan had already been ruled out after having hip surgery following the Lions tour.
Dublin province prop McCarthy - the brother of Joe - is the sole new member in the 34-man squad, however Irish rugby authorities says uncapped provincial duo Edwin Edogbo and Gleeson and previously capped western province wing Bolton will travel to Chicago as "backup".
After playing the New Zealand at Soldier Field in a rematch of their 2016 meeting, Ireland host the Brave Blossoms, Australia and world champions South Africa in the Irish capital.
"It's an exciting group to the squad and it's a chance for the veteran members and for the newcomers on the summer tour to the Lelos and the Lobos," said the coach, who returns to national team duties after a break to lead the British and Irish Lions to the southern hemisphere.
In a mostly familiar-looking selection, Leinster's Prendergast and Munster's Jack Crowley will once again compete for the starting fly-half spot. The fly-half role is still up for grabs, as Prendergast and Crowley poised to play against each other for the first occasion in the upcoming United Rugby Championship match at Croke Park.
Ciaran Frawley is the third number 10 chosen with Farrell deciding not to calling up Leinster's Byrne.
At number 9, Farrell has picked Lions tourist Gibson-Park and Casey, who captained Ireland to the summer international victories over the Lelos and the Lobos. Additionally, there is a recall for the western province's Caolin Blade, who is preferred to teammate Murphy.
Robbie Henshaw, Bundee Aki, Garry Ringrose and McCloskey form an veteran group of midfield choices. Osborne is a further choice in the midfield, but the youngster is additionally a leading candidate to cover for Keenan at number 15.
Wingers Lowe, Mack Hansen, Tommy O'Brien and Stockdale are included. O'Brien impressed on his national team debut over the summer with two tries apiece in the wins over the Lelos and the Lobos.
Paddy McCarthy is the sole new name in the Ireland pack. The front rower has started a couple of Leinster's URC United Rugby Championship games so far and featured in Ireland A's defeat by England in the English city previously.
The 22-year-old was selected in interim boss Paul O'Connell's summer squad, but did not receive a international appearance.
Munster second row Thomas Ahern, who earned his debut appearances in those Tests, is retained, and experienced Northern province second row Henderson returns after missing the summer matches.
Conan, who started all three Lions Tests during the tour, is set to deputise for Doris should the captain fails to recover fitness soon enough to face New Zealand.
The national team will assemble in Dublin on the start of the week before traveling to the US on the following day.
