Female Victim Stabbed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Assault Succumbs to Injuries

A woman who was stabbed in the neck during a random assault at a bus stop in Birmingham has passed away, authorities verified.

The deceased woman, who was 34, was targeted on Smallbrook Queensway street, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, shortly before 9 PM GMT Friday evening, according to police statements.

Djeison Rafael, 21, appeared before Birmingham court Monday morning, charged over the violent incident.

He was previously accused of attempted murder but following the victim's passing charges were upgraded to include murder.

Police Response

Authorities stated police personnel will remain in the downtown area through Monday to offer reassurance, and investigators were supporting the woman's family.

Investigators are requesting for witnesses who may have seen the accused, identified as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in grey athletic wear, black hat, athletic shoes with a backpack.

Incident Location

The knife attack occurred near the Bullring shopping centre, across from primary access point to Birmingham New Street station.

Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as a random violent act with investigators stating efforts continue to determine the motive behind.

Eyewitness Reports

An area worker, who works nearby, described paramedic and police activity after completing her shift at about 22:00 on Friday.

She characterized the location as "quite chaotic", and said co-workers reported hearing loud disturbances at about 21:00.

"A lot of my colleagues use transit services, ride the tramline... our safety is at risk essentially, in the downtown area."

Another individual, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, said he came the city quite frequently visiting his partner who lives in the city, expressing concern regarding the incident.

"It makes me worried about my partner," he stated.

"She lacks transportation and works at major concert locations... considering something completely unprovoked occurred, you know, it's terrible."
