Conversely, less than a small fraction of those over 55 mention AI as a source for holiday ideas.

Overall, a quarter of UK residents still choose printed guides when arranging their trips.

Researchers foresee the adoption of smart tools to expand significantly in the coming years.

Nearly two in five of respondents said they would be willing to trust an virtual helper to book their trips completely.

Post-Covid Holiday Return

Findings shared at a recent industry event showed that the proportion of British people booking a holiday in the past year has nearly returned to pre-pandemic numbers.

About the vast majority of people studied took a holiday domestically or internationally last year.

An ever higher number of people mentioned a holiday as the most important non-essential purchase, prioritized over leisure, electronics, and other pastimes, particularly during difficult economic times.

AI Adoption Grows

A survey conducted in recent months showed that double the number of respondents are employing AI for travel arrangements compared to a year ago.

Now, eight percent of respondents reported they rely on AI for suggestions, rising from a smaller percentage in 2024.

Younger Tourists and Mental Health

Research additionally revealed that 25- to 34-year-olds were the top group to describe a trip as "important for their mental health".

A high ninety percent of younger adults shared this perspective, versus the 80% overall figure.

Environmental Considerations

Younger holidaymakers were also double the chance to choose a brand, hotel, or location because of its sustainability efforts.

Approximately twenty percent of millennials prioritized environmental factors, compared to one in ten generally.

Doubt About Eco-Friendly Statements

Calls for Regulation in Tourism

The problems with too many visitors in Spanish destinations and other locations were linked to "illegal rentals" as opposed to big operators.

This included calls for governments to clamp down on instances where Airbnb owners operate without a official permit, health and safety certificate, or proper tax records.

The message was clear: Hosts should take individual responsibility, become licensed, and complete the process.
